Given what I now know, I prefer to use a proper sized BAT extension for convenience, however, shim stock with Loctite works just as well. As to why I didn’t try a bedding material, I simply didn’t think of anything along such lines at the time. If you have the means to test several firearms using a bedding approach or other differing method, I’d be interested in learning the results and I’m sure our readers would as well.
GSA Santa Fe Sporters Is there a database or publication for Santa Fe or Golden State Arms sporters? I have two that I believe are from Santa Fe but are not marked. They appear the same as pictures of this model I have seen. One has the Enfield magazine marked "Santa Fe" but no other Santa Fe markings. Bill Golden State Arms of Pasadena, California had a division which sporterized military rifles, including Lee Enfields and Mausers. All these "Santa Fe" rifles are identified by roll stamping on their barrels.
Golden State went out of business in the late 1960s. Some former employees tried to salvage their financial futures by forming and opening Federal Ordnance. Fed Ord, as it became known, went the way of Golden State and was acquired by an outfit named Brinkle Trading. The only entry on the Web for that name turned up a somewhat sizable display of costume jewelry. You can carry the steps we’ve taken on your behalf further but we have not yet found more information on this.
However, there are a large number of reference sites for Lee Enfield and Mauser rifles. AG
