S&W Introduces Disabled Marksman Award

Smith & Wesson has established an award honoring the marksmanship accomplishments of Americans with physical disabilities. This award is significant, as it marks the first time that a major pistol manufacturer has chosen to highlight the contributions that disabled marksmen make to the shooting sports. The Smith & Wesson Award will be presented to the highest ranked pistol competitor in the final standings of the annual NRA-Beeman Grand Prix Championship.

This 12-city precision air-rifle and air-pistol tour was developed in 1997 by Dave Baskin, manager of NRA Disabled Shooting Services, for the purpose of offering quality shooting sports opportunities to the nation’s disabled population. Since its inception, the popular tour has appeared in 26 cities in the United States, and by special invitation in two cities in Canada.

The NRA-Beeman has also established the best participant-diversity record of any open shooting-sports competition in the world, with women and minority marksmen finishing among the top award winners on a regular basis.

This unique award from Smith & Wesson will not only bring welldeserved attention to the achievements of disabled marksmen, but also provide encouragement to the millions of Americans who suffer a disabling injury or illness each year, and feel that they can no longer be an active participant in sports and recreation activities. The Single Action Shooting Society’s (SASS) Cowboy Action Shooter television series will premiere on the Outdoor Life Network on September 27, 2004. The 13-week series produced exclusively for OLN will air twice weekly on Mondays at 6:30 p.m. (eastern) and Sundays at 3:00 p.m., from September 27 through the end of December.

Hosted by sport television veteran Peter Young, Cowboy Action Shooter celebrates America’s Western heritage as it follows SASS’ national championship shooting program across America and explores the social and cultural activities that surround the sport and its organization’s 60,000 members.

Sponsored by the Single Action Shooting Society, and presented by Cimarron Firearms Company and Colt’s Manufacturing Company, Cowboy Action Shooter not only dives into the competition and social aspects of the nation’s fastest growing shooting sport phenomenon, it also takes a behind the scenes look at the famous guns and gunslingers that won the West. Viewers will also meet the industry’s makers and manufacturers and learn techniques from the experts as well as the game’s champions.
