Gov. Sarah Palin: The Real Deal
The firearms industry has been celebrating the nomination of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin since she joined the Mc Cain ticket back in late August. And as you would expect, the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the National Rifle Association (NRA), and numerous other outdoormen’s groups have been reminding hunters, sportsmen, and gun-owners to register to vote and to secure an absentee ballot if they plan on being in the field on Election Day, November 4th.
As you are no doubt aware by now, Governor Palin is a true member of the "hook and bullet" community, a lifelong hunter, sportswoman, and firearms owner. She’s a life member of the NRA, with a clear record of supporting the American traditions of hunting and firearms ownership. Palin’s record on Second Amendment freedoms stands in stark contrast to Delaware Senator and Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden, about whom the Brady Bunch says: "Sen.
Biden has been a consistent supporter of the Brady Campaign, and…was a key player in the fight for the federal assault-weapons ban that passed in 1994." In fact, Biden actually introduced his own "assaultweapons’ ban in the Senate five years before the Clinton gun and magazine ban was imposed.
In 1989, Biden’s bill proposed to ban the Colt AR-15 and eight similar firearms as "assault weapons," and to authorize ATF to come up with a list of "any other firearms, regardless of type, to be banned as "additional assault weapons. As lead sponsor of the Senate crime bill to which the Feinstein gun-ban amendment was attached, Biden was instrumental in the passage of the 1994 Clinton gun and magazine ban, and, in fact, took credit for authoring it in a debate earlier this year.
Biden voted to extend the ban in 2004, and recently introduced a proposal (S. 2237) to renew the Clinton ban on roughly 200 makes and models of semiautomatic rifles, shotguns, and handguns on the basis of things like the shape of their grips and magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. Biden, of course, voted against the law that prohibits lawsuits designed to bankrupt law-abiding firearm manufacturers and dealers. And along with Sen.
Barack Obama, Biden refused to sign a congressional friend of the court brief calling for an end to the D. C. gun ban. To put it simply, Sen. Joe Biden would be the most anti-gun vicepresident in American history. On the other hand, Gov. Sarah Palin would be one of the most pro-gun. The choice seems pretty clear tome. Of course, if you’re a moose, I can understand why the Governor might make you a little nervous. Editor Keith Lawrence Technical
